スコティッシュフォールドの垂れ耳は軟骨の異常(骨軟骨異形成症)。悪質なブリーダー達は危険を承知で折れ耳同士を交配。その為遺伝子疾患に苦しむスコティッシュフォールドが大量にいる。骨や軟骨にも重度の異常がみられる事が多く成長過程で歩行困難になる可能性もある。猫達は先天的な異常で深刻な健康被害を受けたまま売りに出されている。
